DECRO Advanced 4 solution (New generation): composition, installation and connection

Notes
This article explains what the new generation of ADVANCED DECRO solution (ADV4) is, and provides instructions on how to install and connect it to the user's laptop.

This new system consists of an ACQUISITION UNIT x4 (ACQ4) coupled to an ANALYSIS SERVER (SRV). It reduces its size while maintaining performance and increasing analysis and connection flexibility.

1. ADV4 solution – Introduction about the solution

The new ADV4 is a lightweight data ACQUISITION UNIT designed specifically for signal recording, coupled with an ANALYSIS SERVER. The two components communicate with each other, but each has its own role to play.

If you have the older generation, please refer to the FOLLOWING ARTCILE (The older ADV is packaged in a flight case, allowing for a plug and play operation with only one power supply and network cable connection required)

Unlike other systems, the ACQ4 does not include any tools for analysing data. Its role is to acquire data by being placed in the animal facility alongside the subjects.

With this acquisition unit, you can capture and record signals in real time, have access to a preview of the signal after the data acquisition to check its quality and automatically send the data to the ANALYSIS SERVER, with no extra steps.

Once the data is in the ANALYSIS SERVER, you can use the full LASA software to explore, analyse and export your data. The analysis server can be located directly in the animal facility or in a room connected to the internal network. For its part, the analysis server has no acquisition capacity,
even if it is physically on site.

The dissociation of the two main functions: Acquisition and Analysis allows the user to analyse data while acquisitions are in progress, without the risk of losing data, therefore saving time.

Installation and connection options are summarized here:

the acquisition unit communicates directly with the server via a cable and is used locally in the animal house. (TOP)

> the acquisition unit and the analysis server communicate via the internal network and can be placed in two different rooms. (BOTTOM)

2. Acquisition unit – Installation

In order to access the software and perform an acquisition, it is necessary to install and connect the acquisition unit. Here are some steps to follow:

1- First, put your unit in the same room of the animals, and avoid elements that may interfere with the Bluetooth signal, such as a metal partition or thick wall.

2- Do not forget to screw the antennas on the adequate supports. The 4 antennas must be positioned at 45° as shown in the photo below.

3- Link the power cable and plug it in an electrical socket nearby. The start button  then lights up BLUE, if the server does not directly power on, click on the corresponding button.

Starting up this type of system may take a few minutes (~5 min). Please wait before attempting to connect. The system is fully powered on when the blue light is steady.

4- Choose the desired connection mode according to your needs.

> Locally, by connecting it directly to a PC (LAN1 to PC) allowing only one computer to have direct access to the ACQ in the animal facility,

In this mode, even if your computer is connected to the internal network, the acquisition can only be used locally. Consequently, data analysis must be carried out locally: this involves connecting the analysis server by cable, enabling direct data transfer and automatic synchronisation between the ACQ and the SRV, without any intermediate steps (exporting, downloading and importing files from the ACQ to the SRV).

> Or to your network (LAN 2 to NET) allowing the ACQ and SRV to communicate over the internal network and access the ACQ and the SRV server from any company computer.

Please contact your IT department to define the names/ IP addresses of the various elements on your network and open the corresponding ports. Please refer to this section for details of the ports to be opened.

This connection mode enables remote access to any element
if the laptop is connected to your network and direct data transfer and automatic synchronisation between the ACQ and the SRV, without any intermediate steps (exporting, downloading and importing files from the ACQ to the SRV).

5- Connect the Ethernet cable to the appropriate port, depending on your setup: LAN1 to PC or LAN 2 to NET. Once these steps are complete, you can connect to the acquisition software.

3. Analysis server – Installation

In order to access the software and perform data analysis and export, it is necessary to install and connect the server. Here are some steps to follow:

1- Choose where to place your server and the desired connection mode according to your needs.

> Locally, by connecting it to the acquisition unit (LAN1 to PC/ACQ) allowing only one computer to have direct access to the two elements in the animal facility,

Or to your network (LAN 2 to NET) allowing the two elements to communicate over the network and access the server from any computer.
Please contact your IT department to define the names/ IP addresses of the various elements on your network and open the corresponding ports. Please refer to this section for details of the ports to be opened.

2- Connect the Ethernet cable to the appropriate port:

3- Link the power cable and plug it in an electrical socket nearby. The start on/off button then lights up BLUE, if the server does not directly power on, click on the corresponding button.

Starting up this type of system may take a few minutes (~5 min). Please wait before attempting to connect. The system is fully powered on when the blue light is steady.

Once these steps are complete, you can connect to the analysis server software.

4. ADV4 solution – Connection instructions

Once the acquisition unit and the analysis server have been correctly installed and connected, you can connect to both elements using the same process

The access is made through a web browser. Browsers compatibility is indicated in the following table.

Each element and connection mode has its own URL and IP address, which you can find on the label of your acquisition unit, USB adapter or analysis server.

Enter the previous addresses in the search bar to connect

When you first connect, your browser may display an alert because it does not recognise the system as a ‘reassuring website’. Simply click on ‘advanced settings’ and ‘continue to the site’.

The connection is established between your computer and one of the elements when the ETISENSE logo appears. On the connection’s page, click on the "CONNECT" button to access the system. The connection may take a few seconds if you have just switched on the system. If it doesn't work, check that your system is properly connected and/or that the Ethernet cable is correctly inserted in the right port depending on the configuration.

A User Authentication and permission module (UAP) is installed on the system. The welcome page requires an email and a password to proceed...

default login credentials are configured on the system.

Login = ACQ: acq-nano-00XXX.admin@etisense.com and SRV: adv-srv-00XXX.admin@etisense.com
Password = decroAdmin
authentication mode = LOCAL

For security reasons, the user must use it for the first connection, then create an administrator account and deactivate this account.

Please refer to these steps to disable the default administrator account:

Once the connection succeeded, you will gain access to this page:

Note also that the homepage banner differs between the ACQ and the SRV, as well as the design of the data transfer button.
Acquisition unit header:

Analysis server header:

Please note that once connected

- A loading wheel on the ACQUISITION button of each study may be present as well as a notification at the bottom left of the page. This information is present to specify that the acquisition slots are being activated one by one and that you must wait for the complete start-up before recording.

- To align the system over time, a pop-up window may appear offering to align the system over time after the slots have been started. Be aware that realigning the clocks of each slot may take some time, but it is necessary. Wait for the update wheel to disappear.

You can open both the acquisition unit interface and the analysis server interface on the same Laptop. Each will have its own browser tab :

5. ADV4 solution – Default Network Ports (LAN2)

To enable the acquisition unit and the analysis server to be networked and send data to each other (LAN2), you must check with your IT department that the following ports are open

- Port 443 (HTTPS)
- Port 22 (SSH - rsync)

These ports must be opened on the acquisition unit and on the analysis server.
If the acquisition system communicates with the analysis server via a wired connection (Direct mode), simply check that the ethernet cable is connected to the correct ports on both systems.
Info
Even if the previous ports have been opened, it is possible that some internal firewalls prevent the two systems from being paired. If this is the case, please contact your IT department. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

6. ADV4 solution – Pairing and data transfer between ACQ and SRV

The pairing of the two elements is not initially configured as it depends on the setup configuration. To do this, from the ACQ, click on the data transfer button (see below) to access the configuration interface.

A form called ‘Pair to ... ’ should appear. It contains the following fields:

To combine the two elements, you need :

-         Enter the login used to enter the analysis server. As before, you can use the default identifiers (Default login = adv-srv-00XXX.admin@etisense.com)
-         the associated password (default password= decroAdmin)
-         and the connection url depending on the setup configuration.
o  LAN 1 = URL ou IP adresses on the serveur label
o  LAN 2 = URL of the system given by IT on the internal network

Once validated, this information enables the ACQ to connect to the SRV. Once the two elements are linked, this page appears:

If pairing with the SRV fails, the ‘Retry’ button can be used to restart the connection attempt.

If you would like to know more about data transfer, please refer to this article.

To dissociate the two elements, simply click on the information button on your storage space:

And click on UNPAIR.

7. ADV4 solution – Powering off from the software

We recommend that you power off the both elements by following this procedure:

> Click on the gear icon located in the top right corner of the header

> Click on the “SHUT DOWN” button on the settings popup that appears

Allow the system to shut down completely (all power diodes should turn off within a few minutes).
